Description

Each working group will have students focus on the partner countries architectural heritage and the various styles that show the cultural differences and similarities. English will be the vehicular language. Italian and Turkish will also be used to favour knowledge of cultures and their integration. Pictures and descriptions of main architectural masterpieces and buildings  will be exchanged and will constitute the working material on which to base collaborative work,  ICT communication, practical activities.

 

Objectives

 

Promoting cooperation and friendship on common values also through a deeper knowledge of architecture and its importance in the quality of life of people. Reinforcing knowledge of English as a vehicular language

Developing knowledge of the language of the partner countries (Italian and Turkish)

Deepening competence in the use of ICT

Increasing awareness and the sense of belonging to the common Mediterranean origin

Reinforcing knowledge about the partner country's heritage

 

Method

 

Choice of theme, working group forming, definition of tasks, activity development, monitoring, evaluation and publication of the work online on two dedicated linked websites, enhancement of the validity of the digital resource.

 

Impact foreseen

Reinforcing a 'Common Identity' through a better knowledge of the architectural heritage of the partner country, of English as the vehicular language, of ICT abilities, enhancement of the students’ awareness of the importance of exercising an active European citizenship. Dissemination through dialogue and publishing on websites, diffusion among the students and teachers of the whole school, of the local community, of parents and relatives.

 

Products to share

Students will select special architectural masterpieces and neighbourhood buildings which will be photographed by them producing authentic material which will be exchanged through ICT with the partners. Other products will be  drawings and/or short essays production on the theme and/orshort mini-lectures and debates in class made in the vehicular language (English), posters or ppts in English as the vehicular language, class exhibitions, website producing, if feasible a final videoconference in the three languages (Italian, Turkish, English as the vehicular language)


The students involved at Liceo Classico Plauto - Rome, Italy - are the ones from 2nd and 3rd form ASU, 1st form B and C, 3rd form C, 5th form B and D. They are about 150 boys and girls (14-19).

Online contact between

Authorization was received from both Italian and Turkish E-twinning authorities

 

Beginning phase

November  2013

Brainstorming on E.U. values and citizenship in class as a preparatory activity to  ‘Architectural Heritage – Our Nations, our Identity - Educazione alla multiculturalità'- An  E-twinning project between Italy and Turkey

 

December 2013

Focusing on internet research on partner countries, dividing students in working groups, electing their group leader;

Selecting architectural heritage present in the cities of Rome, Ankara and in the nearby arear;-taking authentic digital pictures of selected pieces of architectural heritage
- Projecting, creating and publishing two linked national project websites.

·  Intermediate phase

January - February 2014

Selecting authentic digital photos taken;

- writing projects on pieces of selected architectural heritage in English as the vehicular language, also presenting some Italian and Turkish words for students to get more and more familiar with the language of the partner nation

 

March 2014

- organizing power point presentations;

April 2014

- publishing ppts online

- viewing the partner school works;

- if feasible, making posters on EU citizenship

 

Final Phase

May 2014

- organizing class exhibitions for Europe Day;

- taking digital photos of them;


June - July 2014
- publishing work on project sites and final editing.
